ARE YOU COACHING THE SAME GROUP FOR ANOTHER SEASON?

Soccer clubs have different visions when it comes to organizing coaching setup in their youth developing programs.

The main question is:

1. Should the same coach grow with one generation for some years till their pre-senior age, or,
2. Appoint coaches for the particular age group and remain coaching the same category every season?

There are some characteristics in both cases in which coaching qualities and experiences are the main factors in making that decision.

It is a new season and you are reappointed to be a coach of the same group the following year. What is given to you is the trust to grow with the same generation. Your work is recognized, players’ development is progressing in a sufficient time and there is still room left for you and your players to give more to each other. During evaluation process, it is a quality of a decision-making to recognize this moment rather than to follow policies, if there are any, and change the coach because he spent enough time with the same group.

If you are the coach and you have motivation to work with the same group you should be proud to be awarded with such opportunity. It gives value to your work done in previous year and possibility for continuation of developing your program in order to achieve further team goals.

YOU KNOW THEM

Dedicated coach always wants more from his players, in order to develop to perfection as many aspects of the game as he can in every player. Knowing players’ characteristics at present, having a main role in creating them will be the perfect person to sense the right moment to load training and challenge the team. From psychological aspect, the coach should know the states of motivation, emotional reactions and thus will be able to control and channel those in the right direction.

Players are fully aware of coach’s training methods and expectations. They will be confident and respond faster to his requirements, most of the time anticipating and being able to independently make correct decisions.

The challenge for the coach is higher as he needs to progress further with his group. He must not let the speed of development slow down and the level of performance remain the same as previous year. He must discover new ways to channel motivation for himself and his players. Coach must bring fresh ideas, methods and approach to training and his players – otherwise, it can be repetitive and lose the edge.

The coach who takes this post must be aware of these facts and should prepare for the job, as he will be surprised how a difficult job it can be if not addressed with lots of attention.
